The beginning…
From a young age, Amita has been interested in fashion. To give vent to her passion she started creating bedspreads patronising the kantha embroidery of Bengal, thereby generating employment for many women of rural Bengal. Alongside her first venture of bedspreads, Amita also started creating her own dresses. Amita started designing dresses in 1998 and carved a niche for herself. Her son Abhishek joined the venture wishing to recreate the brand to get it the recognition it deserves.
Karigar & Co.
Chief designer and co-founder, Amita Ganeriwala has been designing for several years now and is very much acquainted with the language of fabrics. The idea for Karigar & Co. came from her son when he returned home to find that his mother’s ideas are very fresh and rare in the current market. Essentially, Karigar & Co. focuses on luxury wear, minimalist couture, and fun pret ensembles. The brand specializes in creating light, magical pieces using organza, chanderi, and mulmul fabrics, which are the perfect fit for the season and events! The core philosophy is reflected in the brand name – Karigar & Co. They use traditional ideas and techniques, such as shibori dye, appliqué embroidery and zardosi work to bring to life new age cuts and concepts.
