Having been already known for his acute sense of styling, Rocky decided to start his own label in 1995, creating a new wave in the country, being the first to design for both celebrities and the common man. His contemporary designs, with the use of Indian crafts and embroideries, formed the core brand ethos, which he continues to follow even today. He was also the first to bring understated elegance to shimmer and shine, making it more occasion friendly.

The beginning...

After studying commerce in college, Rocky swiftly moved to pursue a degree in fashion designing. Soon after graduating from fashion school, Rocky began his designing career with Roopam, where he learned design processes, from sketching to garment creation. He had a creative bend along with an impeccable sense of styling. While working with Roopam, he landed his first styling project with Akshay Kumar, unfolding his long term association with Bollywood. With styling Raveena Tandon and Akshay Kumar in Mohra, Rocky became Bollywood’s most sought after stylist and it wasn’t long before movie producers began to approach him for various projects. After styling Hritik Roshan in Kaho Na Pyaar Hai, Krrish, and Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, people’s obsession with Bollywood wardrobes began. Today Rocky has over 350 movies in his styling repertoire, Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar starer 2.0 being his latest movie.

Rocky Star’s mission is to create relevant, luxury couture for the women and men of today- unbound, fierce, and fearless, who are looking at experimenting with fashion. His design aesthetic is as contemporary as it is traditional and as elegant as it is innovative. He draws inspiration from the Baroque and Gothic time periods, with influences and traces seen across all his collections. A sensibility that blends India heritage crafts and textures with intricate embroideries, Rocky’s designs cater to the global clientele. He captures the yesteryear charm in decorative prints and intricate embroideries, focusing on occasion wear along with bridal, pret and accessories for women and men.

Celebrities in Rocky Star

An international sensation, Beyonce wore a gorgeous pink lehenga from his collection, for her 2007 concert in India and also took a few pieces from his collection back home. Paris Hilton too, on her trip to India, wore an embellished ivory dress from Rocky’s collection. He also designed pieces for Hilton’s photoshoot with Marie Claire Magazine. The Pussycat Dolls lead singer, Nicole Scherzinger also wore a Rocky Star black sari with zari borders, at the Conde Nast Media Group’s, 5th Annual Fashion Rocks benefit in 2008. Besides, Aishwarya Rai, Priyanka Chopra, Katrina Kaif, Sonaakshi Sinha, Shilpa Shetty, Dia Mirza to name a few, have also worn signature Rocky Star outfits.

Rocky says, "After dressing Beyonce and Paris Hilton I believe the next international sensation I’d love to dress would be Rihanna. To design for her would be a joy since I believe my designs aesthetically align with the dressing sensibility of Rihanna perfectly".
