Rohit Bal was born into a Kashmiri Pandit family in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir, India. The St. Stephens College history student switched gears when he decided to study fashion design at the prestigious National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in Delhi. Rohit Bal launched his eponymous label in 1990 with his first independent collection, which garnered him attention in the high-fashion world.

How did your career begin?

In 1986, Rohit Bal, along with his brother Rajiv Bal founded the export company Orchid Oversea Pvt. Ltd. Post that, he made a mark in fashion through his eponymous label and launched his first independent collection in 1990.
