When zero-waste fashion is a dictate, the design comes with a purpose. Established in 2018 by Kritika Murarka, the design house aims to create modern ethical clothing. After completing her fashion design course from the prestigious National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Kritika gained experience in the fashion industry, working for over two years as a sample developer and fashion merchandiser. The leading fashion export house in Kolkata helped hone her skills and pique her interest in sustainable fashion. It was the beginning of her label – Kritika Murarka.
Kritika Morarka designs combine Indian crafts and techniques and global fashion sense with an environment-friendly approach. Kritika is among the leading fashion designers of India who are restoring glory to forgotten Indian fabrics. She restyles handloom with a twist of contemporary cuts, colours, and prints. Her support weavers initiative helped create fashion lines from the weaves of India. She uses khadi, silks, and cotton (sourced from Bengal weavers), for fashion Made In India but for a global audience. Whether it is the mix of jamdani fabric with net or the use of sonamukhi silk with art nouveau prints or tie and dye – it is a different way of looking at handloom weaves to create eco-friendly and zero-waste fashion supporting local artisans.
