Nothing says sophisticated and stunning as well as silk - with its soft touch and subtle sheen, it is a truly premium fabric. The Banarasi brocade elevates the luxurious silk to an even more regal stature. A technical achievement and a true piece of art, the banarasi brocade is woven with the help of three designers and uses nearly 5600 thread wires. A standard garment can often take from 15 days to a month and sometimes up to six months to create.
Our latest collection of designer Banarasi Silk Gowns showcases the detailed intricacy and beauty of this age old tradition. Banarasi brocade flourished under the patronage of the Mughal empire era when premium silks were introduced to the weavers of Benares, who developed their signature practices and imbued the silks with complex designs of flowers, birds, animals, human figures, geometric motifs and even Persian and Nagari scripts. Banarasi brocades, though traditionally made with pure silk, are now made with different fabrics and include four broad categories - Katan made with pure silk, Kora made with organza, georgette, and shattir. The brocades are then embroidered with delicate silver and golden threads in a style known as ‘Zari’ work.
